High-level negotiations between the United States and Iran ended early Monday at the Bürgenstock Resort near Lucerne, Switzerland, after an 80-minute session. The two sides established a de-confliction cell that includes the Lebanese government to monitor adherence to the termination of military operations in Lebanon. Mediators Pakistan and Qatar announced the cell after the meeting.
Washington suspended sanctions on Iranian oil. Commercial vessels may transit the Strait of Hormuz without charge for the 60-day diplomatic window. The parties agreed to mechanisms to keep the strait open, though control remains unresolved.
Iran stated it intends to maintain control over the waterway. A ceasefire in southern Lebanon appeared to be holding Sunday. Israel said it would lift movement restrictions near the border on Monday morning.
US Vice President JD Vance, who led the American delegation that also included Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, called the talks a "very good foundation" for a final deal to end the conflict. Iranian negotiators were headed by parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. " Vance stated on June 21.
