The US military began a sixth round of strikes against Iran at 2 p.m. Eastern time on July 16 to further degrade Iranian military capabilities, CENTCOM announced. Iranian media reported explosions on Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas and Chabahar the same day.
US missiles struck locations near Bandar Abbas and a projectile hit near Qeshm Island, according to Fars and Mehr news agencies. A cancer hospital in southwestern Iran evacuated more than 200 patients during heavy air strikes nearby. The Kuwaiti military responded to new Iranian drone attacks, while Bahrain said it thwarted sinister attacks by Iran.
The US Embassy in Baghdad advised US citizens in Iraq to remain on alert after a drone attack on Erbil on Wednesday. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Iran very much continues to talk to the United States and wants to make a deal. President Trump said he could not rule out a US takeover of Iran’s southern islands.
US Vice President JD Vance accused Israel of funding campaigns aimed at ruining US negotiations with Iran to end the war and stated that people within the Israeli government are trying to shift US policy away from a deal. Qatar categorically rejected Israeli media reports that it agreed to participate in military action against Iran.
