US Strikes Hit Iranian Sites in Hormozgan and Khuzestan Provinces

The United States military launched airstrikes early Sunday on Iranian sites near Sirik in Hormozgan province, Qeshm Island and a location near Shadegan in Khuzestan province. The strikes hit Sirik at 1:30 a.m. local time, Qeshm Island at 3:38 a.m.

According to Iranian reports cited by Al Jazeera. US Central Command said the strikes targeted Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites. The command stated the action was designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and came in retaliation for Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks on a US base in Jordan that killed two American service members on Friday.

Iranian reports stated there were no casualties and that residential and commercial infrastructure was not damaged. Al Jazeera’s Tohid Asadi reported from Tehran that the last eight nights of strikes have caused anger and frustration among the populace, with residents uncertain about continuation of the confrontation or prospects for a diplomatic settlement.

Iran’s army said it targeted US military assets at Al-Adiri camp and Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait in response.

Iran’s supreme leader warned of unforgettable lessons if the United States continued its attacks. State-run IRNA reported that the Bonji desalination plant was destroyed, cutting off water supplies to about 10,000 people, and that a desalination plant on Qeshm Island was damaged.

Iranian authorities stated at least 50 people have been killed and more than 500 wounded in US strikes in the past three weeks.
