USFK Commander Protests South Korean Minister's Remarks on North Korea Facility

Brunson conveyed the protest to Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back, according to Rep. Sung Il-jong of the main opposition People Power Party, who chairs the parliamentary national defense committee. Sung stated at a press briefing that Chung should resign, saying the remarks caused a rift in the South Korea-U.S. alliance.
Military officials reported that the United States has partially restricted sharing intelligence with South Korea on North Korea-related technology collected through satellites following the controversy. Officially, only Yongbyon and Kangson are recognized as uranium enrichment sites in North Korea.
The unification ministry stated that Chung's remarks were based on open information and rejected claims they involved intelligence shared by Washington.
