Utah Court Hears Evidence in Charlie Kirk Murder Case

Prosecutors in Utah presented surveillance footage and witness testimony on Monday in a preliminary hearing to determine whether Tyler Robinson, 23, will stand trial for the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk. The hearing, which is set to continue through Friday, will decide if prosecutors have enough evidence to present the case to a jury. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Kirk's widow Erika attended the hearing along with his parents and other family members. It marked their first court appearance since the case began. The family released a statement before the proceedings. "Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children," the statement said.

They thanked people for their support and asked for privacy as the case proceeds.

Law enforcement witnesses described surveillance footage showing Robinson on the Utah Valley University campus four times on the day of the shooting, including hours after the attack. One witness testified about finding a screwdriver and an impression in gravel on a roof that appeared consistent with a sniper position.

Another witness described home surveillance footage showing a gray Dodge vehicle near campus. Robinson's defense team questioned witnesses about security staffing, surveillance, and how Robinson was identified as a suspect. The hearing is scheduled to continue through the week.
