The Utah Mammoth matched the offer sheet presented to Barrett Hayton by the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, signing the forward to a one-year contract worth $4.775 million, ESPN reported. The agreement restricts the Mammoth from trading Hayton for one calendar year.
He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2027, though he can sign an extension with Utah as early as January 1.
Bill Armstrong, the Mammoth general manager, said Hayton is a key piece of the team. "He's strong in the face-off circle, plays both sides of the puck and can play with anyone in our forward group," Armstrong stated. " Hayton, 26, posted 10 goals and 25 points in 67 games during the 2025-26 season.
He set career highs of 20 goals and 46 points in the team's 2024-25 season and has accumulated 155 points in 362 NHL games including playoffs. The Devils would have received the Mammoth's 2027 second-round draft pick as compensation if the offer sheet had gone unmatched.
