Marino, 29, was entering the final season of a six-year deal worth $4.4 million annually that he originally signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He was traded to the New Jersey Devils in 2022 and then acquired by the Mammoth from New Jersey in a 2024 deal that cost Utah three draft picks.
In the 2025-26 season Marino recorded four goals and 36 points in 80 games while averaging 20:12 of ice time per game. The Mammoth finished seven points out of the second Western Conference wild-card spot and reached the playoffs for the first time since relocating from Arizona. They lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round after holding a 2-1 series lead.
Marino posted one point and averaged 22:27 of ice time over six playoff games. Across seven NHL seasons with the Mammoth, Devils and Penguins he has 23 goals and 134 assists. "We view John as a foundational piece of our future," Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong said.
