Utah Mammoth Trade Winger JJ Peterka to Boston Bruins for 2026 and 2028 First-Round Picks

The Utah Mammoth traded winger JJ Peterka to the Boston Bruins on Friday, one year after acquiring him from the Buffalo Sabres. Boston sent its 2026 first-round pick, No. 23 overall, and a 2028 first-round pick that originally belonged to the Florida Panthers.
The Bruins had acquired that pick in the 2025 Brad Marchand trade. The Florida selection is top-10 protected. Peterka, 24, joined Boston after recording 25 goals and 22 assists in 82 games during the 2025-26 season.
His average ice time fell from 18:11 to 15:59. He had posted 27 goals and 68 points the prior season with Buffalo. Utah acquired Peterka from the Sabres on June 26, 2025, in exchange for forward Josh Doan and defenseman Michael Kesselring.
The team then signed him to a five-year, $38.5 million contract with an average annual value of $7.7 million. Peterka was born in Munich.
Boston employs the NHL's only German head coach, Marco Sturm. Bruins assistant coach Matt McIlvane previously coached Peterka with Salzburg EC in the German pro league. Boston ranked 10th in the NHL in goals per game last season at 3.27.
