Utah Woman Describes Decades-Long Farm Ownership Dispute on The Ramsey Show
A Utah caller told hosts of The Ramsey Show that she and her husband paid for half a house but do not hold title. The in-laws own the other half and have not approved remodeling plans.
nypost.comA Utah woman identified as Patti said on a recent episode of The Ramsey Show that her husband has worked on his parents' farm for 31 years without receiving formal ownership or succession documents. Patti told hosts Rachel Cruze and George Kamel that she and her husband paid for half the house they occupy, yet the property remains titled solely to the parents.
Patti stated that she asked the in-laws to remodel bathrooms built in the 1970s and sent them a letter outlining the request. She said the parents did not reply directly and later told her husband that she was not grateful enough for the house.
Patti said the couple expected the farm to serve as their retirement plan, but no transfer of land or signing authority has occurred. Cruze responded that the arrangement constituted a bad business deal. Kamel said the situation was not normal and asked whether Patti had raised the ownership issue in the past 30 years.
