Vice President JD Vance told CBS News “we are making progress” in negotiations with Iran. The comment came in an interview with Jennifer Jacobs.
Vance disclosed that he had spoken that morning with White House Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Envoy Jared Kushner about the talks. He also held discussions with Arab officials on the same subject. According to Jacobs, Vance addressed questions about whether Americans’ financial situations should factor into decision-making on Iran.
When asked if he agreed with the president’s position that such considerations should not apply, Vance replied, “Well, I don’t think the president said that.”
A senior White House official said China has already pressured Iran to reach an agreement, per Politico. The vice president did not specify what concrete safeguards would be required to meet the administration’s threshold for any agreement or provide a timeline for when a decision might be required.
