Venezuela Quake Death Toll Reaches 3,342 as Rescue Hopes Fade

Twin earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 28, killing 3,342 people and injuring 16,470 others, the country's Information Ministry said on Sunday. The magnitude 7.2 quake centered on Caraballeda in La Guaira state also affected neighboring Caribbean regions. Rescue crews searched through rubble at a collapsed building in Caraballeda for additional victims.

The death toll rose steadily in the days after the quakes as officials accounted for more victims. The number of people left homeless reached 17,345. Authorities have announced that 3,342 people have died and that more than 16,000 have been injured. Hopes of finding the missing are fading.

Jordanians were evacuated from Venezuela and arrived on a Qatari flight after the earthquakes. The flight marked one of the first organized departures of foreign nationals from the affected area. Officials have not released updated figures on missing persons or the extent of infrastructure damage beyond the initial counts.
