Vice President JD Vance Says He and His Wife Will Decide on 2028 Run After 2026 Midterms
Vance told CBS News he and his wife Usha will decide after the midterms whether he will seek the Republican presidential nomination. He said President Trump has raised the topic frequently but has not offered explicit encouragement.
foxnews.comVice President JD Vance said he and his wife, Usha Vance, will decide after the 2026 midterm elections whether he will seek the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. The interview was taped last Tuesday at the vice presidential residence and aired on "CBS Sunday Morning" on June 14.
Vance told the program that he expects President Donald Trump to be "very supportive" of whatever decision he reaches.
"I have no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive of anything that I decide to do," Vance said. " Vance said he is not currently focused on a future campaign. "I am not sitting around figuring out whether I'm going to run for president," he said.
He added that he and Usha Vance "will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family" once the midterm results are known. "The way I make decisions is, I try not to make them until I absolutely must," Vance stated. Vance said he never initiates discussions about his political future with the president.
"I never bring it up," he said. " Vance said the conversations remain general. "So, we talk about it, but not in any great detail," he said. " He added that he does not want thoughts of another office to affect his current work.
"I really don't ever want my thought about a future job, whether it's president or anything else, to make me a worse vice president," Vance said. S. Senate representing Ohio before becoming Trump's running mate in 2024.
He previously served in the United States Marine Corps and earned his law degree from Yale Law School. His new memoir, "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith," is scheduled for release on June 16.
