Vice President JD Vance is leasing part of a nearly 500-acre property outside Middleburg, Virginia, to serve as an additional residence for his family. The property is part of the historic Wolver Hill Farm, located roughly an hour from Washington. Two people familiar with the arrangement told CNN the vice president plans to stay there occasionally while maintaining the official residence at the Naval Observatory.
The farm is owned by a firm led by Charles Kuhn, founder of a moving company that has handled presidential transitions, including that of President Donald Trump. The same firm is a longtime government contractor and has become one of Virginia's largest landholders.
Rental terms Vance's personal attorney, Chris Ashby, said the vice president will pay fair market value for the rental, determined by comparable properties in the area. Kuhn did not respond to a request for comment. The Washington Business Journal first reported the lease.
Middleburg, a town of fewer than 1,000 residents, has previously hosted retreats for other national political figures, including former President John F. Kennedy and former President Ronald Reagan.
