Vice President Says Patience with Higher Gas Prices Helped Reach Iran Peace Deal
Vice President JD Vance thanked Americans for enduring elevated gasoline prices during the conflict with Iran. The comments followed announcements of a peace agreement reached through talks involving President Trump.
thehindu.comVice President JD Vance said Sunday that American patience with higher gasoline prices contributed to reaching a peace agreement with Iran. Vance spoke on Fox News's "The Big Weekend Show" after President Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on social media that intensive talks had produced an accord.
"Well, I guess my primary message to the American people is 'thank you,'" Vance said. That figure rose from $2.982 after military operations began February 28. The United States and Israel conducted strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities that day following the collapse of negotiations over Iran's nuclear program.
Officials had previously stated the program was "obliterated" by a June 2025 strike but continued to describe Iran as a threat. Vance added that compliance with the broader deal could open space for regional cooperation between Gulf Arab allies and Israel.
Wright stated in May that Iran possessed enough material for ten nuclear weapons and nearly 1,000 pounds of uranium enriched to 60 percent. Similar remarks were made earlier by other administration officials. The New York Times reported in April that President Trump approved the military action after a February meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the strikes were launched to prevent a potential Iranian response from targeting American forces.
