Vice President Vance Cancels House Republican Conference Appearance Due to Scheduling Conflict

Vice President JD Vance canceled his scheduled appearance at the House Republican Conference meeting on Tuesday morning, Washington Examiner reported. The cancellation resulted from a scheduling conflict. Vance had been invited by House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain of Michigan.

He was set to address the conference ahead of a procedural rule vote on the House floor. House Republican leadership has scrapped votes two weeks in a row amid a conservative blockade. GOP hard-liners are threatening to paralyze the House until the Senate passes the SAVE America Act and codifies President Donald Trump’s border policies.

Last month, 13 GOP rebels blocked legislation from reaching the floor unless Speaker Mike Johnson attached the SAVE America Act to the National Defense Authorization Act. Johnson can afford to lose only three GOP votes on any measure given the slim Republican majority. Rep.

Anna Paulina Luna of Florida leads the faction demanding passage of the SAVE America Act. The bill requires voter ID to cast a ballot and proof of citizenship to register to vote nationwide. The House previously passed the measure, but it remains stalled in the Senate due to the 60-vote filibuster threshold.

House leadership included language in this week’s procedural rule to make daylight saving time permanent as an incentive for Luna. The House Rules Committee passed language allowing the SAVE America Act to be merged with the National Security and State appropriations bill upon House passage.
