Vice President JD Vance said on June 30 that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would be the leading Democratic candidate for president in 2028. @DailyCaller reported that Vance made the remarks during an interview with Michael Knowles.
He stated, "I think it’s got to be AOC. " Vance added that he did not expect California Gov. Gavin Newsom to lead the field, citing Newsom’s comment to a room of Black people that he shared their low IQ.
He argued that a focus on economic populism would serve Democrats better than positions he called extreme, including Ocasio-Cortez’s calls to tax the rich to fund gender transitions for minors. Ocasio-Cortez responded the same day while taking questions outside the Capitol. When told of Vance’s comments, she said, "I mean … um … you know … uh … I hope he is.
She then shouted "Yes" when a reporter asked whether she hoped Vance would be the Republican nominee.
