Victims of Iranian Terrorism Gather in Washington to Press Trump on Restitution

More than 100 victims of Iranian-sponsored terrorism and their families gathered in Washington this week to urge President Trump to require Iran to pay restitution as part of any potential peace deal.

Service members. CBS News reported that the group American Victims of State-Sponsored Terrorism United sent a letter to President Trump stating that no agreement should release or return Iranian assets or lift sanctions until the outstanding judgments are resolved.

Angela Mistrulli, who organized the two-day gathering, plans to deliver the letter during a White House meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

Her father, Joseph, was killed at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The effort comes at the midpoint of a 60-day Memorandum of Understanding signed June 17 by President Trump and Iranian leaders.

CBS News reported that the MOU, negotiated in large part by Vice President JD Vance, offered Iran the prospect of hundreds of billions of dollars in frozen assets and sanctions relief in exchange for opening the Strait of Hormuz and eliminating any nuclear threat.

President Trump said after signing the agreement that failure to reach a deal would lead the U.S. to resume bombing, while adding that the country would never allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Vice President JD Vance called the MOU a good deal for the American people and said it offered Iran a chance to be reinvited into the world economy.S. military strikes on Iran resumed more than a week ago after little progress toward a longer-term agreement.
