Victims Minister Catherine Atkinson Backs Home Secretary on Immigration Reforms

Labour MP Catherine Atkinson, the Victims Minister, stated her support for Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's immigration reforms in an interview with GB News host Nana Akua. GB News reported that Atkinson was asked about her position on the policies. She said a consultation on indefinite right to remain had taken place and that people want a firm and fair immigration system.

Atkinson stated that net migration has come down by 82 per cent and that sanctions have resulted in more deportations of foreign national offenders. When pressed on whether she backs the measures, Atkinson said she certainly backs the Home Secretary and believes Mahmood will take the steps needed for a firm and fair policy.

On illegal migration, Atkinson said it is concerning whenever people cross into Britain illegally and that trafficking is still occurring.

She added that strides have been made in bringing down small boats but the problem has not been solved yet. A Home Office spokesperson said smuggling gangs are taking greater risks than ever with the number of people they are cramming into unseaworthy boats rising year on year, and that lives are being lost in the Channel as a result.
