Victor Marx edges Barb Kirkmeyer by 0.5 points in Colorado Republican governor primary

NBC News projected on July 9 that Victor Marx won the Republican primary for governor of Colorado. Marx defeated state Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer by a narrow margin after the June 30 primary, taking 39.9 percent of the vote to Kirkmeyer's 39.4 percent.

State Rep. Scott Bottoms finished third. With more than 95 percent of votes reported, Marx received 206,670 votes and Kirkmeyer received 204,622 votes out of 518,852 total ballots cast. Marx, a former Marine and founder of All Things Possible Ministries, will face Democratic nominee Phil Weiser in the November general election.

Weiser, the current state attorney general, defeated Sen. Michael Bennet in the Democratic primary. Gov. Jared Polis is term-limited and will not seek re-election. Colorado has not elected a Republican governor in more than two decades.
