Victor Wembanyama agreed to a five-year contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs that could exceed $250 million if the player option in the final season is exercised. The Spurs announced the multi-year extension on July 10, 2026. Wembanyama posted on social media the same day that he was staying with the team.
“Spurs family, I’m here to stay. Whatever it takes,” he wrote. The 22-year-old center accepted less than the maximum possible deal, which could have exceeded $300 million over five years. The extension begins in the 2027-28 season at approximately $43.5 million and includes a $57.
Wembanyama will earn about $16.8 million in the 2026-27 season under the final year of his rookie contract. Wembanyama is 7 feet 4 inches tall. He was named unanimous Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-NBA honors in the 2025-26 season.
He led the NBA in blocks per game in each of his first three seasons and averaged 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. The Spurs finished the regular season with a 62-20 record and the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
They reached the NBA Finals and lost to the New York Knicks in five games. Wembanyama finished third in 2025-26 MVP voting.
