brobible.comHe stated that songwriting serves as therapy for him, particularly given past difficulties in dealing with personal issues. Emerson noted that his words are coming more easily now after nearly a decade in his career.
Emerson's fourth studio album, Blue Stars, is scheduled for release on Friday through the independent label La Honda Records.
It follows his 2023 album, The Golden Crystal Kingdom. He wrote most of the songs for Blue Stars within a couple of weeks during a creative period. The 12-track album is the first to feature his touring outfit, the Red Horse Band.
It was recorded at Gnome Studios in Nashville and produced by Patrick Lyons. The record includes swinging twang elements prominent in Emerson's live performances.
The album addresses themes such as love, Emerson's upbringing in East Texas and Louisiana, and his Native roots in the Choctaw-Apache tribe.
It incorporates varied musical elements, including horns in the track Louisiana Wind. " He explained that the song title refers to the swaying motion of being overserved, and it touches on struggling with addiction. Emerson mentioned visiting New Orleans since childhood and noted Louisiana as his ancestral lands tied to his tribe.
March, Emerson performed a song swap with Steve Earle at New York's Beacon Theatre, opening for Tedeschi Trucks Band.
During the set, Emerson told the crowd, "You can’t be an immigrant on stolen land," which received a standing ovation. Emerson shared that Steve Earle praised one of his new songs, referencing advice from Guy Clark.
Emerson will make his debut at the Grand Ole Opry on Friday, following an invitation arranged through Canadian folk singer William Prince during a tour stop in Tampa earlier this year.
Emerson stated he believes he is the first person from his tribe to perform at the Opry. Following the debut, Emerson plans a two-month headlining tour across Texas and the West. The tour includes stops at venues such as Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas; the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles; and two nights at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle.
