Footage released June 5 shows an aircraft with swept wings and canards flying near the Nevada test site. Analysts link the design to Boeing’s F-47 sixth-generation fighter program.
newatlas.comA video posted June 5 by the Project Fear YouTube channel shows an unidentified aircraft flying near Area 51. The clip, captured in infrared at night, depicts a tailless planform with rear-set swept wings, large canards, and a shovel-shaped nose. The aircraft’s configuration differs from earlier official renderings of the F-47, which had shown a modified delta wing without canards.

Darold Cummings, an aerospace engineer who worked on Northrop’s YF-23, reviewed the footage and noted the visible dihedral on the wings and the forward placement of the canards.
Cummings said the wing shape offers long straight edges that reduce radar cross-section. He added that the canards could improve stability at high angles of attack, a benefit for tailless designs. Olivier Vargas, a 3D artist known as @ollysaerospace, produced renderings based on the video. His images show the same swept wings and canard arrangement visible in the footage.
Cummings explained that a tailless layout eliminates vertical tail intersections that can increase radar returns. He noted that thrust vectoring could replace traditional tails for control. He also said the planform appears suited for supersonic cruise but unlikely to exceed Mach 2.2.
The Air Force’s May 2025 infographic listed the F-47’s top speed as Mach 2+ and combat radius above 1,000 nautical miles. >"I’ve always liked the X-36. That demonstrator used yaw thrust vectoring and eliminated vertical tails. Cummings said the X-36 configuration could serve as a starting point for the F-47.
He added that locking the canards in cruise might help maintain edge alignment for low observability. Bill Sweetman, an aviation journalist, noted that a canard delta layout could affect fuel capacity and trim in cruise. He said the final balance between range and signature remains an open question.
The video has renewed discussion about how the F-47’s final design may differ from earlier public concepts released by the Air Force and industry.
