Maine Democrat Graham Platner, a 41-year-old military veteran and oyster farmer, is seeking the party's nomination to face Republican Sen.
Susan Collins in November.
Collins has held the seat since 1997. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the general election a toss-up. New allegations against Platner surfaced in the week before the primary. The Wall Street Journal reported that Platner's wife told his campaign he had sent sexually explicit text messages to other women shortly after the couple married in 2023.
The New York Times reported on alleged unsettling behavior toward some women he dated, including one who described him as toxic and abusive, particularly when drinking. Platner has denied physical abuse and suggested the allegations are politically motivated. Maine Gov.
Janet Mills dropped out of the Senate race in April. Mills' name remains on the ballot along with another candidate, David Costello. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California said on Face the Nation that if there were evidence of violence or sexual assault, he would not support Platner.

"I think when you look at politics in general, there are no saints in the United States Senate," Sanders said. " Collins faces no opponent in the Republican primary. In Maine's 2nd Congressional District, four Democrats seek the nomination to replace retiring Rep.
Jared Golden. Joe Baldacci, a state senator, is seen as the frontrunner. Republicans view the seat as a strong pickup opportunity. Maine's open governor's race features multiple candidates from both parties.
Ranked-choice voting will be used, and voters can rank up to five candidates. In South Carolina, six Republicans seek the nomination to replace term-limited Gov. Henry McMaster. Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette holds President Trump's endorsement.
