Voters head to the polls Tuesday in six states to choose nominees for governor, Senate and House races that will appear on November ballots. California holds the largest set of contests. The open governor’s race features former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, billionaire Tom Steyer and former television personality Steve Hilton.

California’s top-two primary system sends the two highest vote-getters to the general election regardless of party.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass seeks re-election against Republican Spencer Pratt and Democrat Nithya Raman. A candidate can win outright by securing a majority of votes.

If no Republican receives at least 35 percent, the nominee will be chosen at the state party convention on June 13. Three of Iowa’s four House districts are viewed as potentially competitive in November, though their primaries are not expected to be close.
