Walmart Adds Restaurant Meal Deliveries to Spark Service
Walmart has begun routing some restaurant orders from in-store locations through its Spark delivery network. The change expands the retailer's existing same-day delivery operations.
Walmart has started directing some Spark delivery workers to pick up and deliver meals from restaurants inside its stores. The orders include items from national chains such as McDonald's and Dunkin' as well as regional outlets. The company began testing the new offers last Monday.
Messages sent to Spark workers stated that restaurant orders may be combined with regular Walmart merchandise deliveries.
Walmart introduced the Spark service in 2018.
U.S. stores and handles same-day deliveries of groceries and other goods. Spark workers also deliver items for outside retailers including Home Depot and Sur La Table. The addition of restaurant meals marks a further step in the company's effort to increase delivery volume.
Walmart's e-commerce business recorded more than $150 billion in global sales in its most recent fiscal year. A company spokesperson declined to comment ahead of the next earnings report scheduled for Thursday.
