Walmart lowered prices on thousands of goods including groceries, household essentials, outdoor living items, toys and apparel at both its stores and Sam's Club locations. The cuts took effect on July 6, 2026.
Walmart reduced the price of one pound of ground beef to $5.94 from $6.74, a roughly 12 percent drop. It cut the price of a 2.25-pound bag of fresh red cherries to $5.63 from $11.18, a 49 percent reduction, and lowered 24-packs of Coca-Cola products to $9.97 from $14.97, a 33 percent decrease.
President Donald Trump said the same day that the retailer acted after his administration requested price reductions to coincide with the nation's 250th anniversary. Walmart did not state whether the reductions responded to the administration's request.
Consumer prices rose 4.2 percent year-over-year in May 2026, the highest increase in more than three years. The average U.S. gasoline price stood at $3.35 per gallon on the evening of July 6, down from $3.86 the prior week but above the $3.14 recorded on the same date in 2025.
