Waterloo Bridge in central London was closed to traffic and covered with a strip of grass to serve as a cricket pitch for the launch of the Women's ICC T20 World Cup. Captains from all 12 competing teams gathered on the bridge for a game as part of a Captains' Carnival event.

England's Nat Sciver-Brunt and New Zealand's Sophie Devine were photographed on the bridge sizing up the tournament trophy.

New Zealand enters the event as defending champions after beating South Africa in the 2024 final. The tournament begins on Friday with hosts England facing Sri Lanka in the opening match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The competition runs for 24 days across seven grounds in England and features 33 matches in total.

The final is scheduled for 5 July at Lord's in London. This edition marks the first expansion of the Women's ICC T20 World Cup from 10 teams to 12, with the Netherlands making their debut.
