Wayne Madsen Retires from Domestic T20 Cricket After Sunday Match
Derbyshire Falcons' all-time leading T20 run-scorer Wayne Madsen will end his domestic T20 career on Sunday. The 42-year-old will continue playing in other formats for the county and internationally.

Wayne Madsen will retire from domestic T20 cricket after his final match on Sunday, bbc.co.uk reported. The 42-year-old, Derbyshire Falcons' all-time leading run-scorer in the format, will play his last T20 Blast game when the team hosts Leicestershire. Madsen made his debut for the Falcons in June 2010.
He has scored 5,108 runs in 185 T20 Blast innings, including two centuries, placing him fourth on the competition's all-time list. The South Africa-born batter, who represents Italy in T20 cricket, played in the 2025 T20 World Cup in India. Madsen helped Derbyshire reach Finals Day in 2019 and quarter-finals in 2017 and 2022.
The Falcons sit second bottom of the North Group with two wins in 11 matches this season and cannot qualify for Finals Day. "I still have a huge desire to play and compete for Derbyshire and firmly believe I have plenty more to contribute in the longer format of the game," Madsen told the club website.
He added that the move allows better management of his schedule while continuing to play white-ball cricket for Italy and in franchise events.
Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur said no words could capture Madsen's impact and called him the club's best-ever T20 player. Madsen will continue in the County Championship and One-Day Cup.
