Some wealthy American families are enrolling their children in AI-powered private schools operated by companies including Forge Prep and Alpha School. The Verge reported that these schools charge families tens of thousands of dollars per year for AI tutors and interactive project-based workshops.
Shaun Johnson, a San Francisco-based venture capitalist, plans to send his son to Alpha Kindergarten at a cost of $75,000 per year.
Johnson stated that education is likely broken and that entrepreneurs will try to fix it. “You want someone to be able to think on their feet and navigate the world, not necessarily a recitation of facts in a particular discipline,” he said. Alpha School co-founder MacKenzie Price stated she plans to keep “hot-button social issues” out of the classroom.
Alpha School operates locations that extend through high school. Forge Prep and Alpha School do not share performance metrics on educational outcomes.
