One in four major apps and services still lack passkeys, according to a site created by security researcher Scott Helme. Instagram, Netflix and Spotify appear on the list while Apple, Google and Microsoft do not.
theverge.comA new website has published a list of major apps and services that do not offer passkeys to users. TechCrunch reported that one in four such services fall into this category, including Instagram, Netflix and Spotify. Scott Helme, the security researcher who created whynopasskeys.com, wrote that the site aims to push companies to enable the feature.
“A list is a surprisingly effective motivator. Nobody wants to be on the list,” he stated. Passkeys rely on device-generated credentials tied to specific sites and can use biometrics or security keys.
TechCrunch reported that users can enable passkeys on Instagram only when the account links to a Facebook account that already has the option active. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and WhatsApp already provide passkeys. Meta did not respond to a request for comment on why Instagram lacks the feature while its other services offer it.
TechCrunch also contacted Netflix and Spotify. The site was posted on June 24, 2026.
