Victor Wembanyama bowed his head and leaned close to the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco as the group prayed together at Frost Bank Center on June 2, 2026, hours before Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The NBA posted video of the exchange on its social media account the same day. Wembanyama, 22, is one of the nuns' favorite players on the roster.

The Salesian Sisters of St.

John Bosco have followed the Spurs since the 1990s. They began cheering for the team to share common interests with students at St. John Bosco School. The group went viral earlier in the playoffs after they were seen blessing another Spurs player before a Western Conference finals game.

Natal told the San Antonio Express-News in May that the nuns pray for good sportsmanship and role-model behavior rather than specific victories. "We keep them in prayer, and it's not, you know, for them to win," she said. " Wembanyama accepted responsibility for his performance in the Game 1 loss but stated he was not worried about the series outcome.

The sisters have maintained a visible presence throughout San Antonio's playoff run.
