Western Europe Records High Temperatures in Late May
Parts of Western Europe recorded temperatures above seasonal norms on Monday. London reached 34.8 C, the highest May reading on record. Government agencies issued health alerts and reported several heat-related deaths.

Firefighters battled a grass fire overnight on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh. Trains to and from Waterloo station in London were disrupted by smoke on the tracks.
France France also recorded May temperature records above 30 C in many regions.
Government spokeswoman Maud Bregeon said at least seven deaths may be linked to the heat, including five drownings and two deaths during sports events. On France’s Atlantic coast, two people drowned on Sunday in the Gironde region. Regional administrator Sophie Brocas urged caution at beaches with strong currents.
