inquisitr.comThe Department of Homeland Security will automatically install the White House app on government-issued mobile devices used by its staff. An email sent to all DHS personnel on June 16 stated that the app will be loaded without requiring user action.
The notice described the app as a convenient way to access official White House communications, including announcements, executive actions, speeches, livestreams, videos and other updates.
The White House app launched in March and provides live streams of presidential addresses and press briefings. It also includes consolidated feeds from government social media accounts and a list of current prices for common grocery items. Government Executive reported in May that officials planned to install the app across all government-furnished mobile phones in the executive branch.
At that time, installation was already scheduled for devices used by the Federal Aviation Administration.
A former government IT executive told Government Executive that automatic installation on work phones raises questions about network access, as any app on government devices could potentially create entry points behind agency firewalls.
