White House Situation Room Discussions on Epstein Files Reported in Forthcoming Book
Audio recordings of last year's Situation Room meetings about Epstein files reportedly reached two New York Times reporters. Officials have not disputed the published quotes from those sessions.
Washington ExaminerA forthcoming book by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan includes lengthy quotes from Situation Room meetings held last year on handling Epstein file disclosures. The White House has not challenged the accuracy of those quotes. The excerpts describe discussions among senior officials on managing the revelations.
The Situation Room functions as a Secure Compartmented Information Facility where classified operations are planned. Officials typically leave electronic devices in lockers before entry, though no physical searches occur. Former intelligence official Larry Pfeiffer stated that meetings there can be recorded.
He noted that simple devices without active signals may avoid detection systems. Pfeiffer added that remote participants face fewer security checks than those physically present. He said any recording would require deliberate action by a participant.
Administration officials regularly conduct background briefings to discuss policy without named attribution. Reporters receive information under the condition that sources remain anonymous. A senior official recently told reporters that a memorandum of understanding with Iran would be released within 24 to 48 hours.
