White Sox call up outfielder Braden Montgomery from Triple-A
The Chicago White Sox promoted their top hitting prospect Tuesday before hosting the Atlanta Braves. Montgomery, acquired last year in the Garrett Crochet trade, had posted a .970 OPS in the minors this season.
ESPNMontgomery, 23, had a .970 OPS split between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in 2024 in the deal that sent left-hander Garrett Crochet to Boston.
Background on the prospect The switch hitter was the 12th overall pick in the 2024 amateur draft after playing for Texas A&M. When he enters a game, he will be the 12th player to make his MLB debut for Chicago this year. Montgomery came from Boston along with infielder Chase Meidroth, catcher Kyle Teel and pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez. The other three players have already made their MLB debuts.
Additional roster moves The team also called up left-hander Joe Rock from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. It optioned outfielder Rikuu Nishida and pitcher David Sandlin while transferring outfielder Austin Hays to the 60-day injured list with a calf injury.
