White Sox first baseman placed on injured list with hamstring strain

Chicago White Sox officials placed their first baseman on the 10-day injured list Saturday after he sustained a Grade 2 right hamstring strain. Manager Will Venable said the 26-year-old player will miss four to six weeks. The injury occurred Friday when the player beat out a double play in the third inning against Detroit.

Injury details and roster move Venable initially estimated a shorter absence after Friday's game but revised the timeline following imaging results. The player said through an interpreter that the injury still hurt and that he first felt discomfort halfway to first base.

In a corresponding move, the team selected the contract of infielder Jacob Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte. 317 with 19 home runs in 52 games at Charlotte.

Season performance The player entered Saturday tied for the AL lead in home runs with 20. He is batting .240 with 41 RBI and a .938 OPS over 57 games in his first major-league season. The team also transferred right-hander Jordan Leasure to the 60-day injured list with right forearm flexor inflammation.
