Whoopi Goldberg misses 'The View' after Mount Etna erupts in Sicily

Whoopi Goldberg did not appear on Monday's episode of "The View" after Mount Etna began a new phase of activity during her vacation in Sicily. The ABC program aired with only Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin at the desk, along with guest co-host Michelle Buteau. Joy Behar filled in on her usual day off.

Travel disruptions affect multiple hosts Ana Navarro posted on social media that her American Airlines flight had been canceled, leaving her in Miami. Sara Haines was absent due to storm damage at her location. Goldberg appeared in a video message explaining her situation.

"I am in Sicily right now, and Mount Etna, which is one of our active volcanoes here in Italy, decided to go off today," she said. "Well, I think my story takes the cake," Goldberg added.

Guest steps in as co-host Michelle Buteau, originally scheduled as a guest, joined the panel as a co-host. "This is the best booty call I've ever had," Buteau said. "A volcano had to go off before you asked me to come." Buteau also discussed a storyline on the series about infertility. Executive producer Brian Teta had asked Behar to appear after the series of absences became clear.
