The fire began on July 9 and burned for nearly a week. A 93-year-old British woman died on July 12 after being taken to Torrecardenas University Hospital in Almeria.

Another British man born in Kent was also named in media reports. A surviving British man described his wife as a happy and outgoing person. Spanish authorities have not yet released a complete list of the deceased. The fires rank among the deadliest in Spanish history, according to GB News reporting.
