Wimbledon Finals Set for Noskova vs. Muchova and Sinner vs. Zverev

The All England Lawn Tennis Club begins preparing its grass courts each May. Groundskeepers mow, trim, roll, and paint the courts to reach a target firmness of 200 gravities for the main draw and 300 gravities for wheelchair events.

Staff Will Brierley, lead groundsperson, described differences among the courts using a map kept in the staff clubhouse. Court 2 sits below the water table, requiring extra rolling and watering, while Courts 5 and 6 maintain more consistent conditions. The staff also maintains an irrigation system monitored by computers and employs guard dogs and a hawk named Rufus to protect the grounds.

Wimbledon allows same-day ticket purchases through a queue system introduced in 1922. Tickets for grounds entry start at £33. The tournament began in 1877 as part of a Victorian croquet club and moved to its current Church Road location in the SW19 postal code. Serena and Venus Williams are scheduled to play doubles together for the first time since 2022.
