Wired Reports Meta Safety Tests, Researcher Ticket Hack, and Apple Email Flaw Status

Wired reported this week that Meta contractors posed as children and teenagers to test responses from Gemini and ChatGPT to prompts about suicide, sex, and drugs. The same investigation noted a researcher who used Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.7 to access Front Gate’s website and issue tickets for festivals including Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo.

Security researcher Tyler Murphy discovered a flaw in Apple’s Hide My Email service in June 2025 that can reveal users’ real email addresses.

Limited tests by Murphy and 404 Media found every Hide My Email address exploitable. Murphy first reported the issue to Apple in summer 2025. Apple stated in March 2026 that the problem had been addressed, yet later told Murphy it remained under investigation.

Apple did not respond to 404 Media’s request for comment. The Department of Justice announced that nineteen-year-old Estonian-U.S. dual citizen Peter Stokes was arrested in Finland in April 2026 and extradited to face charges of computer intrusion, conspiracy, and fraud tied to the Scattered Spider group.

Stokes and others allegedly hacked an unnamed luxury jewelry retailer in May 2025 and demanded an $8 million cryptocurrency ransom; the retailer spent $2 million on the incident without paying. Two British Scattered Spider members recently pleaded guilty to hacking Transport for London in 2024. WhatsApp announced plans to introduce usernames that let users message without sharing phone numbers.

The Indian government sent a letter, seen by Reuters, asking WhatsApp to pause the rollout in India over concerns about fraud and cybercrime, and sent similar messages to Signal and Telegram.
