Wolverhampton Wanderers cancelled their 1 August pre-season match against SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands after local authorities imposed strict travel limits on supporters. The club replaced the game with a home fixture against Racing Santander at Molineux.
espn.co.ukuk reported. The club said local authorities had imposed travel restrictions it considered unreasonable, including a requirement that a maximum of 650 supporters travel together on coaches departing from Amsterdam regardless of where they were staying.
The restrictions also offered limited flexibility for fans travelling independently to the stadium.
Director of football operations Matt Wild said the club was disappointed for supporters who had planned to attend. "Unfortunately, the travel arrangements required by the local authorities meant our supporters would have faced significant restrictions which we didn't feel were reasonable," Wild stated.
Wolves replaced the cancelled match with a home game against Spanish club Racing Santander at Molineux at 17:00 BST on the same day.
The club thanked SC Heerenveen for its cooperation throughout the process.
