Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, according to Julie Leonardi, spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line. "Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones," Leonardi said in a statement. Law enforcement officers were scheduled to board the ship while it was docked at Catalina Island.
The ship was due to travel to Ensenada, on Mexico's Pacific coast. The Carnival Firenze is 1,000 feet long and has space for more than 5,000 guests. The vessel features Terrazza staterooms that give guests a stylish, comfy place to unwind from all the fun, plus access to a private deck.
