A woman died on Monday morning after falling from a cruise ship balcony and landing on a deck below, Carnival Cruise Line stated. The incident occurred when the ship, the Carnival Firenze, was near Catalina Island, California. The woman fell from the balcony of her stateroom and was traveling with her family, who alerted the ship's crew.

Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, according to Julie Leonardi, spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line. Law enforcement officers were scheduled to board the ship while it was docked at Catalina Island.

The ship was due to travel to Ensenada, on Mexico's Pacific coast. The Carnival Firenze is 1,000 feet long and has space for more than 5,000 guests. The vessel features Terrazza staterooms that give guests a stylish, comfy place to unwind from all the fun, plus access to a private deck.
