World central banks purchased 41 tonnes of gold in May, the largest monthly addition since November 2025, @KobeissiLetter reported. The figure followed 17 tonnes acquired in April and marked the third monthly purchase in 2026. Poland led purchases for the second consecutive month with 18 tonnes.
Its year-to-date total reached 64 tonnes and lifted official reserves to a record 614 tonnes. China added 10 tonnes, its largest monthly purchase since December 2024. The addition brought reserves to a record 2,331 tonnes, or 9 percent of total foreign-exchange reserves.
May marked the 20th consecutive monthly gold purchase by the People’s Bank of China. Uzbekistan purchased 9 tonnes and Kazakhstan acquired 7 tonnes.
