World Health Assembly Recognizes Countries for Disease Elimination Progress

The Seventy-ninth World Health Assembly opened on 18 May 2026 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Delegates from all WHO Member States gathered for the annual meeting, which runs through 23 May. Countries were recognized for eliminating trachoma and malaria and for ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B.
The World Health Organization stated that these results demonstrate measurable public health progress.
