Wrapped XRP Launches on Solana Through Hex Trust and LayerZero

Wrapped XRP has gone live on the Solana blockchain, enabling XRP holders to participate in Solana's DeFi applications without selling their assets. The launch, facilitated by custodian Hex Trust and cross-chain protocol LayerZero, is part of a multi-chain rollout announced in December 2025.

Wrapped XRP, or wXRP, became available on the Solana blockchain on April 18, 2026, according to CoinDesk. The launch was issued by custodian Hex Trust and bridged using the cross-chain protocol LayerZero. This marks the first time XRP is usable within Solana's decentralized finance ecosystem.

XRP holders can now deploy the wrapped asset on Solana-based applications such as Jupiter, Phantom, Titan Exchange, and Meteora without selling their underlying XRP. Each wXRP is backed on a 1:1 basis by native XRP held in segregated custody accounts. Holders can redeem the wrapped tokens for native XRP at any time, Hex Trust stated.

The Solana integration is part of a wider multi-chain expansion that Hex Trust announced in December 2025.

The rollout also includes deployments on Ethereum, Optimism, and HyperEVM. This move aligns with a trend observed in 2025 and 2026, where tokens originating on one blockchain are bridged to others to access additional yield and liquidity opportunities. Historically, XRP has served as a payment token on the XRP Ledger.

In contrast, Solana functions as a high-throughput smart contract platform supporting DeFi and memecoin activities. LayerZero, the protocol enabling this bridge, has captured significant cross-chain volume previously handled by protocols like Wormhole, Nomad, and Ronin, which suffered exploits totaling more than $1 billion between 2022 and 2024.

The availability of wXRP on Solana provides XRP holders with new options for capital deployment in DeFi.

However, actual usage and the generation of meaningful DeFi volume remain to be seen. CoinDesk reported that while the wrapped asset is now live, its adoption by holders will determine its impact.
