Wrexham Women to Host FC Pyunik in UEFA Women's Champions League Qualifier at Racecourse Ground
The Welsh side meets the Armenian champions at the Racecourse Ground on Wednesday after winning the domestic double. Further qualifying matches could follow later this month and in August.

Wrexham Women will play FC Pyunik in the UEFA Women's Champions League first qualifying round on Wednesday at the Racecourse Ground, the 13,000-capacity home of the men's team. ESPN reported that the match marks the club's first appearance in European competition. Wrexham secured qualification by winning both the Adran Trophy and the Adran Premier title in the 2025-26 season.
The club finished fourth in the league that year, 12 points behind the champions, after placing third in its debut top-flight campaign the previous season. The team was formed in 1993 and reached the Adran Premier in 2023-24. It became the first Welsh women's club to operate on a semi-professional basis in summer 2024.
Wrexham reached the FAW Women's Cup final in 2024-25 but lost to Cardiff City. Steve Dale resigned as manager after four seasons. Jenny Sugarman took over in July 2025. She told ESPN that only one player was under contract when she arrived and described the initial conditions as chaotic, including training without power and conducting a medical outdoors in the rain.
In August 2025 the club purchased its 3,000-capacity stadium, The Rock, becoming the first to own its women's ground outright. Redevelopment work began midway through the 2025-26 season to create a high-performance facility. Wrexham could face Glentoran or Riga FC in a possible first-round final on July 25.
A win there would send the team into a second qualifying round mini-tournament starting August 5 against HB Køge, with a potential final against Gintra or Heart of Midlothian. Wrexham AFC is owned by a group that includes Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, who took over in 2020. Mark Swales serves as technical director.
