WSJ Reports Graham Platner Maintained Active Kik Sexting Account During Early Marriage
Amy Gertner released a video defending her husband after the Wall Street Journal reported on his active Kik account and alleged extramarital sexting. The June 9 Democratic primary is days away.
nypost.comAmy Gertner, who married Graham Platner in 2023, released a video responding to a Wall Street Journal report that detailed her husband’s active Kik account and alleged extramarital sexting. The article, published Saturday, described a profile image showing Platner shirtless with a towel around his waist on the messaging service, which is known for private conversations often used for hookups.
Gertner said she was “deeply hurt” that the campaign’s former political director, whom she had informed about the messages, later confirmed their existence to the press.
She stated that she had confided deeply personal details about the early days of their marriage to someone she considered a friend before any campaign was underway. “It makes me really angry, disappointed, and I find it really shameful that there’s a group of media outlets and people who are willing to spread gossip, instead of talking about real issues that Graham is running on, like healthcare and education and childcare,” Gertner said in the video.
Gertner also addressed the personal strain of the past three years.
“Being married is hard; being newly married is hard; being newly married and going through infertility is hard. She added that coverage of their marriage felt “extra sh—y” given her view of her husband.
“I know who Graham is. I know the man I married and the husband he has been to me on the best and the worst days of my life,” Gertner stated. She said she trusted the former political director with “the most private chapter of our lives” and felt betrayed by the disclosure.
Graham Platner has not issued a separate public statement beyond sharing his wife’s video. Reports indicate he is believed to have had sexting exchanges with up to a dozen women, though the precise number remains in dispute. Platner is the presumptive Democratic nominee in Maine’s Senate race.
The state’s Democratic primary is scheduled for June 9.
