An Adamma masquerade performed in the centre of the square, wearing elaborate woven raffia and a carved maiden mask while playing an Ogene metal gong and Ichaka rattle. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the WTO Director-General, wore a gele and silky gown.
She stepped forward after the masquerade's handlers gestured toward her and matched the performer's footwork and shoulder rolls to the rhythm of the instruments. The masquerade bowed and spun before Dr Okonjo-Iweala waved back. International delegates and ambassadors watched the performance.
