Wyndham Clark Leads US Open After First-Round 64 at Shinnecock Hills

Wyndham Clark completed his opening round with a 6-under-par 64 on Friday morning to take the clubhouse lead at the 2026 US Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. Clark finished with a pair of short pars on the final two holes after reaching 6-under through 16 holes on Thursday.

The two-hour fog delay that morning and ensuing darkness left many afternoon-wave players unable to finish their rounds.

Dustin Johnson, the 2016 champion at Oakmont, shot 66 to stand at 4-under par. Matt Fitzpatrick, winner at Brookline in 2023, and Gary Woodland, the 2019 Pebble Beach champion, each finished at 3-under par after birdie-par finishes on holes 8 and 9. Jon Rahm remained at 2-under par with three holes left in his first round.

Amateur Ryder Cowan began his second round with two pars and stayed at 2-under. Spencer Tibbits, who qualified for the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach as an amateur while playing for Oregon State, is tied for fifth after the first round. The forecast for Friday calls for stiff winds with clouds giving way to sun and continued gusty conditions.

Saturday is expected to bring stiff winds and plenty of sunshine, while Sunday is forecast for times of clouds and sunshine.
