Xteink released the X4 Pro, an updated version of its pocket-sized e-reader that adds a touchscreen and front light. The new model keeps the same dimensions as the prior X4 at 72 grams and 5.95 mm thick. The company said the changes respond to user requests for easier navigation and reading in low light. Side buttons remain available alongside the touchscreen for page turns.
Battery life reached 60 percent after three weeks of daily use during testing. The front light runs on its lowest setting and can be adjusted to a warmer color temperature. Charging now uses a magnetic pogo pin instead of USB-C. The device supports file transfer over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or by swapping its microSD card.
Updated software ships with the X4 Pro and still allows users to load open-source code. Library e-books protected by digital rights management cannot be added, while purchased EPUB files from non-Amazon sources can be transferred. The X4 Pro is sold only through Xteink's website at a price of $99.
